Our Commitment to Privacy
Seminary of Sacred Knowledge (Darul Uloom Wal Hikmah) respects your privacy and treats personal information as an Amanah (trust). This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you when you use seminaryofsk.com, contact us, apply, register, donate, subscribe, or otherwise interact with our services.
This policy is designed to align with applicable Canadian privacy requirements, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies, and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for commercial electronic messages.
1. Accountability and Contact
Seminary of Sacred Knowledge is responsible for personal information under its control. Questions, access or correction requests, consent withdrawals, and privacy complaints may be directed to our Privacy Officer:

2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Contact and inquiry information: name, email address, phone number, inquiry category, and message.
- Admissions and program information: student and parent/guardian details, educational history, documents, program selections, and information needed to assess or administer an application.
- Registration and event information: attendee details, program preferences, accessibility or accommodation information you choose to provide, and attendance records.
- Donation and transaction information: donor identity, contact details, donation amount, campaign, transaction reference, and information needed for acknowledgements or tax receipts. Payment card or bank information is generally collected and processed directly by the payment provider rather than stored by us.
- Newsletter and notification information: email address, subscription preferences, consent records, device or browser token for web-push notifications, and unsubscribe activity.
- Website and technical information: IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, referral source, pages viewed, interactions, dates and times, cookies, and similar technologies.
Please do not include highly sensitive personal information in the general contact form unless we specifically request it through an appropriate process.
3. How We Use Information
- Respond to questions, arrange visits, and provide requested information.
- Review applications, enroll students, administer programs, and support student services.
- Manage events, courses, scholarships, volunteers, alumni, and community activities.
- Process donations, maintain financial records, prevent fraud, and issue acknowledgements or receipts.
- Send service notices and, with appropriate consent, newsletters, event updates, or other communications.
- Operate, secure, troubleshoot, measure, and improve our website and services.
- Meet legal, accounting, safeguarding, reporting, and regulatory obligations.
We limit collection and use to purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.
4. Consent and Your Choices
We seek meaningful consent when required and explain the relevant purpose at or before collection. Consent may be express or implied depending on the sensitivity of the information and the context. You may withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting us.
Marketing emails include an unsubscribe option. You may also ask us to stop non-essential communications at any time. Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent necessary administrative messages about an application, registration, donation, or program in which you participate. Browser controls may be used to block cookies or withdraw web-push permission.
5. Service Providers and Disclosures
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share limited information with personnel and service providers that need it to perform work for us, including:
- WordPress and our website-hosting, security, backup, and technical-support providers;
- Brevo for email delivery and newsletter management;
- Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager for website measurement;
- Cognito Forms for online applications or registrations;
- Keela and PayPal for donations and payment-related services; and
- WonderPush or a comparable provider for optional web-push notifications.
These providers have their own privacy practices and may process information in Canada, the United States, or other countries, where it may be subject to local law. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, to investigate misuse or fraud, or in connection with an organizational restructuring. We use contracts and other reasonable measures to require service providers to protect information appropriately.
6. Cookies, Analytics, and External Links
Our website may use essential cookies for security and functionality, preference cookies, and analytics technologies that help us understand site use. Google Analytics may receive device, browsing, and approximate-location information. You can restrict cookies through your browser; some site features may then work differently.
Our website links to third-party services, forms, donation platforms, social networks, and other sites. Information you submit directly to those services is also governed by their privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
7. Information About Minors
Some Seminary programs serve students who are minors. Where appropriate, we ask a parent or legal guardian to provide or authorize the student’s information. Parents and guardians should review application and registration information with the student and contact us if information must be corrected or consent withdrawn. The general website is not intended to solicit sensitive personal information directly from children without appropriate adult involvement.
8. Retention and Safeguards
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and for applicable legal, accounting, safeguarding, or operational requirements. Retention periods differ by record type. When information is no longer required, we securely delete, anonymize, or destroy it.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including access controls, authenticated systems, secure connections, backups, spam controls, and limiting access to authorized personnel. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
9. Access, Correction, and Complaints
You may request access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information, subject to lawful exceptions. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We aim to address privacy questions and complaints fairly and within a reasonable time.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or another privacy authority with jurisdiction.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our programs, website, providers, or legal obligations change. The current version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated through an appropriate additional notice.
